All these groups in Waikato were closely interrelated, being derived from Tainui, Te Arawa, Mataatua, Aotea, Ngaiwi of Tamaki (mainly tangata whenua ), and tangata whenua blood. In time, Tawakeheimoa married Te Aongahoro, and they had Rangiwewehi, from whom the tribe of Ngāti Rangiwewehi descend. From this union arose a group of hapus, Ngati-Koura, Ngati-Waenganui, Ngati-Ruru and Ngati-Ngamurikaitaua, which settled in the angle between the Waipa and the Waikato.
